Belize

September 9th, Day 34 – If I failed to mention it earlier, Belize was just too hot for me. Realizing that it would be miserable to catch buses all over the place, we chose to catch little planes instead. A few stops later, we arrived in Ambergris Caye. Again, pretty place that moved in slow motion and was full of foreigners. As the weather somehow managed to get worse with the added rain and humidity, my body seemed to have had enough. Following some painful coconut chicken, I could no longer function. It felt like a great combination of heat stroke, fever, and food poisoning. Whatever it was, it didn’t leave me with loving feelings of Belize.

The next day, feeling horrible, we decided to just fly everywhere and avoid the lovely “ex-cheese-buses” that are so popular in Central America. From the international airport in Belize, we found that we had to charter our own plane to get to Flores, Guatemala. The way I was feeling, I must say it was worth every penny!

September 7th, Day 32 – This day was perhaps the toughest (worst?) day of the trip. We caught a boat from Punta Barrios, Guatemala here to Punta Gorda, Belize. First, it was hot. Second it was really hot! We somehow managed to miss the bus to our next destination by 5 minutes and had to kill 6 hours in this town. From restaurant to any shady spots we could find, we managed to live through the misery. Finally, we caught a 2 hour bus to Mango Creek where we missed the last boat by 5 minutes and had to charter someone to take us over to the town of Placencia.

Placencia wasn't too bad, just a little Carribean town that moved at an amazingly slow pace. After some good seafood, we called it a night and were off the next day.
